When my friend's baby was trying to crawl, she would just lay on her belly and kick her legs and get aggervated because she wasn't going anywhere. SO my friend would help her, she would lift up her belly so she could get on her knees, and eventually the baby learned to get in that position. But then she would be in that position and do this rocking back and fourth thing, so my friend would put her favorite toy in the middle of the room, and then leave the room. Needless to say the baby got the toy in no time and now shes walking around like crazy.... its happens real quickly.

oh and by the way, when my little sister was a baby, she never actually learned to crawled, she would do this weird rolling thing... so your baby might skip the crawling stage too... :)

When you he is on his belly do you put something in front of him, you know, like an incentive. Try placing his favorite toy a little bit beyond his reach, that will make him want to reach out for it, and when he reaches it, cheer him and move it a little further. You have to be fully involve in his efforts not just lay him on his belly and watch.
Don't worry much about him, if he can sit up with no support, I promise he will be crawling in no time. I know 'cos I have 3 kids and that's how I got them to crawl.
Also try things like the TV remote, your wrist watch or any thing that will get his attention while he is on his belly.

Maybe he is just not ready. Eight months is too early to be worried and my son never crawled. He just began pulling himself to stand and then walked without ever crawling an inch. Definitely check with your doctor at the 9 month checkup and if he isn't making any move to crawl or pull to stand, maybe he might think about having a Physical Therapy evaluation (for pediatrics, this is usually done in a hospital-make sure it isn't some place that doesn't know developmental pediatrics). Good luck and I am sure everything is fine!

He will crawl when he is ready I have a 13 month old daughter that I thought would never crawl. She proved me wrong. She started crawling when she was 11 months. She crawls every where now, into everything. He is fine just give him time.

Some babies never crawl. My son went from rolling to walking, and he didn't walk until he was 13 months. He'll be fine. Children develop at their own rates. My older one was crawling at 6 months and running at 10 months. They're all different.

no rush! there's nothing wrong with your son. my daughter crawled at 11 months! it didn't matter. she is a smart and healthy girl. every child's development varies from one another.
my mom said i never crawled when i was baby. i moved my butt.

anyway, if you want your son to crawl soon, you can encourage him by putting his favorite toys in front of him. lie him or his tummy so often and let him play that he can learn how to move up his tummy soon. eventually he'll knee and start to crawl.
however i tried everything too when my baby was 8 months but she only crawled at 11.

good luck

Just leave him. He'll start crawling when he's ready. My son didn't start walking until 10 1/2 months. And i was perfectly ok with that. Does your son have a binky. If he does you should limit his binky time to just bed time. sometimes it seems to slow them down. When he's on his belly put toys out for him. Sometimes they'll find the oddest things to crawl to. For my son it was a wooden duck.

If you hold your baby alot yoru baby will depend on you to be mobile, dont give in when he cries. When you put him on his bellly sit across the room and talk to him and tell him to come to you. If your reallly worried about this and he osnt advance soon you should maybe see about going to a doctor. Most babies start crawling around 5-6 months but alot of babies are different.

Some babys don't take to crawling, you can try walking him, having him stand up on his two feet and see how he takes to that, some babys also skoot around instead of crawl.
I think he might be a little to young to worry about it but you want to make sure he starts using those muscles as soon as possible.

You should get down there with your baby. I know this may sound silly but get down and crawl around him. If he goes to day care or is around other kids, this will help him to learn crawling a little faster. Don't worry, it's ok that he's not crawling yet.
