The daisies were beautiful in spring but are no longer blooming. Do they need to be pruned, dead headed or what. They were so beautiful but look very old now. They are on the north side of our home and get a lot of sun.

They , like most perennials, are " time specific " when it comes to blooming . They bloom well in spring , into early summer , but then their bloom time is done. Best to cut down the " old " looking parts , and tidy the plants up for next year . They should come back again, come spring, and be as beautiful , if not more so than they were this year. Hit them with a bit of fertilizer first thing in the spring...
good luck !

Spring blooming daisies? I am going to take a guess that they are Painted Daisies. Pink? if so then if you cut all the flowers down, stem and all, you might get a meager re bloom period. My sources say though that it just weakens the plant and you will have less blooms next year so you probably should just pop the flower heads off for aesthetic purposes and wait till next year. Most perennials bloom at a specific time and when their done their done for the year.

Definitely deadhead them. Be sure that you cultivate around the plant so the water reaches the roots and the soil isnt compacted. Give a good watering, a balanced fertilizer or lots of organic matter worked in around the plant. Mulch at least 2 inches thick after all this so the soil retains the water and stays cool. A lot of plants, when the temp is 90 and up put their energy into just staying alive or going to seed to reproduce. So make sure the roots stay cool with a shredded cedar mulch or chopped leaves, or something like that. Good luck!

I would cut off all of the dead blooms and water and give them some liquid fertilizer and see if I could get another bloom out of them.

Once any flower is past it's prime you need to be the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, "Off with their heads.' This keeps the plant from sending vital nutrition to a dead flower and sends the nutrition to new flowers or setting itself up for next year.

They don't last too long. It's too hot right now anyway.........Inpatiens (spelling) are good for hot weather.
