Hahaha. Yes they are. They are spyware disguised as virus programs and the like. They seem like they're helping your computer but they just make it worse. Those ads prey on people who are not familiar with the internet, or computers, and just click on anything that says "CLICK HERE TO PROTECT YOU COMPUTER". So don't dl that ****, and if it's already on your computer, erase it. I know Winfixer installs itself on my comp automatically everytime I open IE. But I use Firefox so it's alright. Speaking of which, use Firefox, it's more secure than IE. Just google firefox, and dl it for free.

Reputable programs do not pop up boxes in your face. Get your self some good antivirus/antispyware software and use it.

winfixer is a virus. get rid of it. it usually causes problems when using the internet.
