Tell me something you really can't stand about waiting on people (besides not tipping well or at all - that's a given).

I used to serve. The worst thing was dealing with nasty people who you didn't know were so nasty until the very end when they made sure to tell you all the mistakes you made- sometimes just one really stupid one that wasn't even your fault, therefore, they had just cause for not giving you a tip.
Hated people that would run you ragged and leave a crappy tip. Hated when people told you what a great waitress you are (kiss of death) and give you a crappy tip.
Hated when people were so full of themselves and thought the were really cool just because they were going out to eat and were just looking for a chance to abuse someone they perceived as being subservient to them.
I always thought these people have no idea, they wouldn't last a DAY doing this crap, those people assume it is an easy piss on job.
You learn a lot about people from serving. It is a very humbling experience. I think everyone should wait tables at least once and try to stand it for 6 months, it is a great character builder.

There was this yoga teacher that would make his students wait tables for 2 years in San Francisco, before they could take his class. I understood where he was coming from: It takes a very strong person to serve others without developing bitterness.
I was taking yoga classes and waiting tables at the same time. Incidentally, I have no complaints about customers. But then again, I was good at my job. I think that makes all the difference.
Nobody talked down to me. Nobody made unreasonable demands. Nobody insulted me. Nobody ordered their food incorrectly. Is it becoming clear?

I used to deliver pizzas in my own vehicle. There was a town home complex where they not only didn't tip; they'd hand me a wad of bills that was usually a few dollars short, so it cost ME money out of MY pocket to deliver their pizza.

My last night at the job, a guy tried to pass me an obviously bad check. I had handed him his 2-liter bottle of coke when I arrived. I looked at the check and told him I couldn't accept it. I was going to eat the cost of the pop and just leave (he didn't have another form of payment) and he threw the pop bottle at me, bruising my back really bad.

The number one thing for me is when people talk down to you or treat you poorly just because I am waiting on you. I have had numerous people tell me that I was worthless and uneducated. In reality I am a chemistry teacher working on my PhD. Dont assume that just because someone is waiting on you that they are undereducated or beneath you. Some of us wait tables because it is fun or we need to to make ends meet.

People who do not read the menu and ask questions that are answered on the menu. Cell phones. Guests that assume they know wine, but have no idea. Uncontrollable kids running around everywhere. Guests who have no idea what the proper cooking temps are for meat. I could go on and on!

I am in food service, so I guess I count. Basically, when people are assholes, or when they ask too many questions, or judge you. For the most part, people are fine, but there are a few bad eggs.
