I'm with you MeandB!!! This tripe that passes for country music today....ain't!!!! Gimme Hank (Williams, Williams Jr., Snow and Thompson.)!!! Gimme Jimmie Rogers!!! Gimme Rusty & Doug!!! Gimme the Louvin Brothers!!! Gimme Johnny Horton!!!

They've gone so "uptown": electronic organs, orchestration, music overlays...it's all tripe!!!! Lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass (upright or electric) and drum. (If you're really country throw in a banjo and maybe...just maybe a mandolin.)

p.s. Newt Baker was the first performer to use a drum (single snare drum with "brush" drumsticks.)

I am a singer and would like to know the same thing. I'm all about Lotetta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Reba McEntire, George Strait... I don't know what happened. I think it's country's way of trying to fall into the " in crowd". Don't get me wrong, there are some newer songs that I do like, but a lot of them sound like something I would find on a pop or rock station. Maybe country is just evolving like the rest of us. It's trying to fit in. I think it's all a bunch of corporate nonsense. Anyway, thanks for the room to vent about this man! At least I know I'm not the only one on here who appreciates good down home country!

it's like most things. We change with the times and move on to new things. Like poodle skirts, flower power, disco, michael jackson, trans ams and soon we'll be rid of george bush.

For me, the 70's had the best country. Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, The oakridge boys, Willie, Waylon, and the boys. Gone today but not forgotten.

country is still alive for those of us that are "Country When Country wasn't Cool". And lucky for me I live in the south where we have not one but two radio stations that still play some of the good ole country music. But lets take our hats off to Alan Jackson for trying to keep it cool.

I believe that most of the artist these days cannot sing true country songs.
Then again times are changing and so is the music.
