There is a large difference between caring and wanting to care. You may be personally distraught in a variety of emotional ways that you do not care (i.e. have an emotional capacity regarding something specific) but those emotions do not change your indifference, which effectively is that you don't care (have emotional capacity) about something. The long and the short is that indifference is a lack of emotion that does not need to encompass your entire life to exist. It coexists with those things you do have an emotional capacity for. Like your desire to care about something when in fact... you don't.

That's a good question. I almost consider it a non-emotion because indifference implys a complete lack of emotions. But it is essentially a feeling although you are feeling nothing. Indifference doesn't compel one to act in any way, and I think most emotions do. In fact emotions are classified as intense feelings. I guess indifference is a total lack of feeling, so I guess I'll have to say it's not an emotion.

I am not sure. If you cannot feel anything by being indifferent, then that may not be an emotion. But if you can feel anything by being indifferent, then it's still an emotion. Emotions have to do with feelings.

Indifference is not an emotion. It's just a lack of preference.

Indifference is a bad thing. It's why there are starving children in the world. Nobody should be indifferent. Everyone needs to wake up and do what they can to make the world a better place.

No, it is a state of mind. You are neither convinced of a thing to make a clear decision for or against. So therefore you are indifferent.. You can emotional about either choice.
