Not everyone with a UTI has symptoms, but most people get at least some. These may include a frequent urge to urinate and a painful, burning feeling in the area of the bladder or urethra during urination. It is not unusual to feel bad all over - tired, shaky, washed out - and to feel pain even when not urinating. Often, women feel an uncomfortable pressure above the pubic bone, and some men experience a fullness in the rectum. It is common for a person with a urinary infection to complain that, despite the urge to urinate, only a small amount of urine is passes. The urine itself may look milky or cloudy, even reddish if blood is present. A fever may mean that the infection has reached the kidneys. Other symptoms of a kidney infection include pain in the back or side below the ribs, nausea, or vomiting.

If you feel a sudden urge to pee and when you do there is an odd internal pain away from the uvula chances are you have a bladder infection.
If this is the first time you should seek medical attention.
for prevention or to stave off an onset drink lots of cranberry juice or look in your naturopathic pharmacy for a product called cranade.
Any problem in that area should not be taken lightly , seeking professional help is always best, it does not however mean that your choices are limited to prescription medication.
There are wonderful books for women that offer numerous remedies and preventions.
Good luck Goddess

I am glad that you asked this question.
Urinary frequency, buring with urination, fever (sometimes), pain in the lower back or pelvic area, nausea, having sudden feelings of needing to pee and needing to go now!! (urgency), having the feeling of needing to go a lot but not going a lot just dribbling (frequency).
Things you can do at home. A drug called uristat will help with the pain but it is NOT AN ANTIBIOTIC. I wanted to stress this. Uristat will only help with the symptoms but not the infection. Another thing is cranberry juice. Cranberry juice will lower the pH of your urine and help your body conquer the infection.
You need to see your doctor. Antiboitics are a must in order to prevent worsing of the infection into a conditions called pyelonephritis or urosepsis.

You probably are also having symptoms of itchiness, urgency to pee, and/or pain on peeing. These are signs of a UTI (urinary tract infection). If you have a bladder infection (which may be part of it) you may have intense pain, in addition to the above.
Get to a doctor to get diagnosed, as the infection can spread upward, and possibly damage a kidney.

frequent urination, pain while urinating, blood in urine, cloudy urine, pelvic or lower back pain, sometimes fever and chills, pain during sex. You need to go to a doctor and get your urine checked, then if it a UTI you can take a few day course of antibiotics and the infection will resolve. Left untreated it could progress to a more serious kidney infection, and could also hurt like crazy.

Symptoms of mild bladder infections are cloudy urine (may have a funny odor), burning when you pee, feeling like you have to pee frequently and sometimes only a few drops come out. Sometimes a low-grade fever.

You feel like you have to "go" very often...when you do, there is not much urine....it hurts when you "go" and finally blood in the urine, almost the color of tea. A quick urine test at the doctor is all it takes you'll get a prescription and in a day or so you feel much better.......once you've had one, you'll know if you get it again........DRINK A LOT OF WATER........some say cranberry juice does the trick, but water works best for me.

you may not have every symptom - blood inurine, hurts/stings to urinate, foul odor, pain in back along hips, pain in abdomen , high fever > 100 degrees - do not prolong going to the doctor b/c if left untreated these only get worse
