The only way this would happen is if your city/county/state felt that you were impeding progress and growth of your area. I don't feel that it is necessarily right to do, but I do understand the other side of the argument.

The only thing that you could do is talk to a lawyer and see if you had a case for fighting it in court. Sometimes people win those cases, but it's a long hard battle.

The law is referred to as "eminent domain".

this depends on wether or not the county your in is making a public roadway through the area you live in. this is one way they can force you to sell your land. other than that they cant force you to sell your land.
