Well, when you think about it, Kansas is pretty much all farmland...and that's okay. We don't wait in line, we don't fight for parking spots and we don't have to worry as much as the rest of the USA that our neighbors don't speak english or will commit a crime against us.

I lived in Aruba for three years and have been to almost 30 countries and I'm back in KS and I'm happy here. It's nice to visit L.A. or Miami, but no way would I ever live there. This is a bit raw, but I always tell people that I was raised on 18 acres and it's nice to walk outside my house a take a leak if I feel like it. Peace, open air and big sky. That's Kansas and it's pretty dang cool.

We get lots of tornado press of course and the Wizard of Oz was here...probably most famous movie in the world. But obviously we have everything here that anyone else has...except an ocean...great excuse for a vacation ;-) We can drive to the Rockies in a short road trip to snowski.

Most people who throw negative comments like one poster of another KS question from Thailand are just ignorant idiots. You can make any place wonderful with your attitude and creativity. KS is full of great people, excellent food, world-class sports and top-notch neighborhoods. Take your pick...you'll be happy here...

My daughter was at a theater camp last week at a college out of state, and my husband told her that when people ask her about her farm, or all the tornados, to just moo in their faces!!! LOL

We live in Leawood, which is right next to Overland Park. Another great city!!!

Wichita is very good. I live there. Wichita is the biggest city in population in Kansas. Actually I've heard some very good things about the KC, KS area and then some worse things...I've mainly heard bad things about the Leavenworth area.
There are tons of small towns. If you want to move and be in a laid back, slow, quite place - move to a small town here. If you get bored easily make sure to move to a bigger town.

BTW I am so sick of the Wizard of Oz stuff that I could hurl...

Yes Kansas gets aassociated with Tornadoes because of the Wizard of Oz.

Did you know that Texas has the most tornado activity in the world? I used to live there I should know. I now live 15 minutes outside of Wichita and think its a pretty nice city

It's amazing how limited most people's geography is. At least they know about farms and tornadoes. Too bad they've never experienced the beauty of the Flint Hills or the horizon-to-horizon skies or seen dozens of pump-jacks pumping oil.
Most people have no idea really of small town Kansas life or big city life in Kansas.

I like it but I can't believe it was 13. I would have thought there
were a lot of other cities that would rank a lot higher. I don't think public opinion of City Government could have been rated. Noone I've ever spoken to thinks very highly of it. I'm not impressed by Overland Park either. It is very surprising to me that it was number 6. Go figure.
