I had the same feelings my freshmen year but you make do. You find friends and give them a few dollars to cart you around. I know it sucks to rely on other people. By not having a car on campus it also promotes campus involvement. You will be just fine! Have fun!!

I had a car my first year in college, it was a godsend. Although I wrecked it within the first week. My next car was a godsend. Although I went half of the year without it. Take my story as you will, having a car made that year much better.
People without cars will be a burden to people with cars, thats how it goes in college, because from time to time you will need to leave campus to to things.

A lot of the reason they tell freshmen they can't have cars is because they want to promote on campus participation. They want freshmen to make friends and get involved with the school. Having a car makes it easier for freshmen to go home on the weekends and thus miss out on a lot of campus oppurtunities.

On my campus, you need a car. If you want to get to the grocery store, movies, mall, or any good restaurants, you will have to drive at least 10 minutes. That is too far to walk. Plus who wants to ride the bus if they are lugging 5 bags of groceries. Colleges don't want their students to have cars because it frees up parking and forces the students to buy all their food and necessities on campus. I would much rather choose for myself and have the freedom to go where I want.

Yeah, my parents said that too. But they've decided to get me a car because I've been acting responsible and got two paying internships this summer. Besides, I live an hour away from home and they want me to come home once in a while =)

And there is a reason, that first year away from home you are more likely to get into trouble.
And a car increases that probability greatly.
Just be glad that you are getting to go away to college and stop your whining.

you will make it w/o a car everything on campus will be in walking distance and probably hang out spots and things are in walking distance or find some upperclassmen with a car to hang out with

I hate when colleges are like that! It's annoying but a lot of people have to do it.
