My daughters name is Samara Jane, and I'm afraid that she
will be teased b/c she has the same name as the girl from The Ring. Should I nickname her Sam or Marie or Janie from her middle name? At the time, I thought Samara was a pretty name.

I don't think she'll be teased unless the kids in her class have seen The Ring. I think Samara is pretty but it is different..be ready to deal with some sort of teasing sooner or later, but really, all kids get it.

By the time the kids are old enough to even think of teasing, most of them won't even know about the movie and the origin of your daughter's name. It really is a beautiful name and shouldn't be given a nickname. You may start calling her something for short just because it happens that way (Ie:Sam..what are you doing? etc.) Don't worry about the teasing. If it does happen, leave it up to Samara Jane if she wants a nickname.

Samara is a pretty name. Let her decide when the time comes what she wants to be called. Chances are those close to her will adopt Sam.
Chances also are, it will end up relatively common for the same reason you used.

Congrats for your new daugther. I think that's an unique name. I like that name. Here some infos about that name just for you from me :
SAMARA
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English
Possibly derived from the biblical place name Samaria, which means "watch mountain" in Hebrew.
JANE
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English
Pronounced: JAYN [key]
English form of Jehanne, an Old French feminine form of Johannes (see JOHN). Jane Austen was the British novelist who wrote 'Sense and Sensibility' and 'Pride and Prejudice' among other works. Also, the central character in Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre' bears this name.
From her nickname I choose Janie.or Sam..
Hopefully I can help you..Happy choosing and take care...
Dee

You have nothing to worry about. Samara is a very pretty name. I think she will have no idea that her name was even in the movie when she gets older.

Oh, I'm so sorry. That really sucks. It gives you a bad feeling about the decision. But trust me, no one will notice but you. The ring isn't such a huge classic movie or anything, where people will actually remember that name. I saw the ring, I loved it, but I didn't know what the girl's name was until you told me.
Just call her Sam all the time, you will wind up doing that anyway.

You liked the name 2 months ago, and it should not be affected by some movie! You can nickname her sami or anything you like. She will probably love her name as much as you did when you named her. I think It is very pretty and feminine.
