laugh out loud.

Well, seems like everyone has already answered the correct answer, but since I'm here might as well answer it: LOL means "Laugh Out Loud". These days lol doesnt have the same meaning as before, people arent really laughing out loud anymore, unless they say "LMAO" or "ROFL" which is either "Laugh My A$$ Off" or "Rolling On the Floor Laughing" which was already mentioned above by the other person answering this question

The mean?

Well.

L + O + L = LOL

Divide that by 3...

LOL / 3

= LOL / 3

Sorry, I can't simplify that anymore :(

We could approach it differently...

2 x L
1 x O

That's two Ls and one O. So, let's take them individually. Do you think we can add two means together to get the real mean? Let's use numbers.

2 + 2 + 6 + 6 = 16
16 / 4 = 4

2 + 2 = 4 / 2 = 2
6 + 6 = 12 / 2 = 6

6 + 2 = 8 / 2 = 4

See? 4.

L + L = 2L
2L / 2 = L

2 Ls divided by two, the mean is L.

O + 0 = O
O / 1 = O

1 O divided by 1, the mean is O.

L + O = LO
LO / 2 = LO / 2

That's how much I can simplify it, sorry!

I hope that answered your question... no one else understood it, it seems!

*wink wink*

LOL is a common expression of children and adolescents 9-18.
'LOL' literally stands for 'Laugh Out Loud' but is interperted more loosely. If a person says 'You gotta be kiddin' me.', and they don't want to be rude, they might plug on an 'LOL' on the end (You gotta be kiddin' me, lol.)
LOL can also mean 'Lots of Love', commonly used more by adults.

Well it's obviously been answered, so here's some personal info. I use "lol" as an Internet chuckle, so to speak. When something is seriously funny, like I might actually be laughing in real life, I use "LOL". But see what Internet idiosyncrasies you like.

Most occurences of lol (Little Old Lady, really) seen here in YQ&A are clumsy, out of context.
Use of this silly acronym must be stopped immediately or dire consequences will follow.

LOL = "laughing out loud"

This is often overused, and most people are not actually laughing out loud when they say it.
