I got my CDL with Schneider National Carriers. Thety are a great company to work for. Great insurance and it doesn't cost you to get your CDL. I used to train drivers for them, but now I am a dispatcher for another company. I took this job to be home with the kids. If you are single and want to see America and Canada, Driving is great. If you are a family man, i would consider how you value your family. Is it worth loosing that much time with them to make a few bucks. I know that it's a tough decision, but it's one that every driver has to make. God Bless you, and I will Pray for God to help you make this decision.

Depends on what you are looking for. It's a hard hard life. If you love the travel and single? yay, your'e in the right track. If you want a home life? Most over the road company's may get you home for 2 days after running 14 days. Just enough time to catch up on your sleep. It is not for everybody. You will find out once you get out there if it is your niche. Most new people get into it for the money and be your own boss, like you see on advertisments. That's not true. You will meet many people along the way. The money can be good as long as you don't blow it all out on the road. GOOD LUCK In Your Travels!!!

The main thing you have to think about is if you are paid by the hour or mile. All independent drivers and most company drivers are being paid by the mile, which may seem o.k. until you realize the miles you are paid for are less than you actually drive. This is because most companies pay you "dispatch miles" which means city limit to city limit. Another thing is if the wheels ain't rolling you are in that truck for free.

As with any job, There are good points and bad points.
The hours are usually much longer than 9 to 5, Depending on the company you hire on with will determine what benefits if any that you recieve.

Good luck.
