They have rat leaches at some pet stores, you can use a farret one. I wouldn't recomend training a rat to walk on a leash, but you might want to get them use to a leash so when you have them out you can keep a hold of them. Rats don't really walk as much as scurry and they are not going to walk on a leash like a dog will.

Yes you can. Rats are like mice believe it or not they are inteligent. You can buy a cat collar and take a long nail hild it with a pair of clamps . Heat the nail and have someone help u to get the nail through the colar. Make sure the collar is nylon though and it will work. I had to do this for my horses bridal and it worked great.

It is not a stupid question at all i had a friend that had a pet rat and took it every were he could and had a leash you can get them at almost any pet store and just like any animal it take time to get them to get use to but if they are friendly enough should take to it pretty fast.
good luck and keep a close on eye him when your out.

Yes, I used a ferret body collar w/leash, it was a little big but it worked, he didn't mind it. But they do sell body collars for rats in pet stores.

I cant imagine why anyone would want to have a pet rat, much less teach it to walk on a leash.
But to each their own.
I remember in the movie BEN they taught all those rats to do some amazing things...yes.... some of them were mechanical, but not all.
I guess if you have the time and the patients to work with one of the things you could teach it to walk on a leash.

You probably could - they're smart - but you wouldn't want to use a collar, since they'd probably be able to slip right out of it. Your best bet would to be something like a figure-8 harness like they make for ferrets, which goes behind the front legs as well as around the neck.

The rat will do it but the trick is to find a harness that small.

Look in a pet store, or attempt to fashion your own harness.
