There are several differences between Office XP and Office 2003, however, most of them came in Outlook rather than in the other programs. Excel does not usually come with a computer, but it may be that you purchased a copy of Office pre-installed at the time you bought it (perhaps online)--if it is a basics class (which you can probably do on your own with just a book), then you will likely not need the 2003 version. If it is an in-depth course including extended time on addin-ins, you may want the new version... all that said,
If it isn't too late though, I would suggest you wait and take a course on Office 2007 when it comes out at the beginning of 2007--I have a beta copy now and there are MAJOR changes between it and previous versions (it is different in appearance and has significantly greater functionality).

Your Version probably is Office XP Ver.10. Office 2003 is Version 11. There isn't much changes, except some new feature. Sometime you might not be using it at all. Go ahead with your course, not a problem at all. But if your Office version is Office 97 than there will be a slight problem. Office 2003 files doesn't work on Office 97. You will have to save your work as Office 97 so that you are run it with Office 97 elsewhere. But Office 97 files will be able to run with Office 2003 ,just convert them during open files.

Excel is a seperate software. MS be conscious is definitely a seperate software. the only element common on any pc is in all risk the working gadget (you acquire XP). The classes that got here "loose", or bundled with your pc have been listed on the container it got here in. Sorry! there is yet another database software already on your Dell which you are able to use to open XL records, perchance Lotus? I am not aware of any version of Excel packaged with Windows XP, unless you ordered it along with the computer.
If it is really Microsoft Excel, it shoudl be similar to the one you are usiung in class. Check with the teacher, many classes require an exact version of the software to avoid compatibility problems.

Don't buy a newer version of Microsoft Excel yet, at least until version 2007 comes out... for now, they are all basically the same...

Excel doesn't come with Windows, so if you had it when you bought your computer the store (or more likely their suplier) installed it.
I would not buy another verson of Excel even if yours is different; they work together pretty well.

No need, I think.
You can happily learn with what you have in your computer. Purchase 2003 version ONLY if you want to spend. :-)
