Yes, quite a few are louder. It is to try to stand out. Since we're in such a fast paced world many people multitask and "watch" tv while surfing the net, reading magazines, writing letters or paying bills, or even talking on the phone. So they make the commercials loud so you'll pay attention to the product.

Yes, they do that. A lot of people turn the television down during commercials in order to talk to one another. Advertising executives know this and purposely have their volume set at a higher level. This way, even if the volume is turned down, you are forced to hear their commercial. :)

Yes they do....seems like whenever I'm watching a show I have to turn the volume on high because I can barely hear but then a commercial comes on and it's really loud. The one that I noticed starts off REALLY loud is that pro-activ commercial where Jessica Simpson starts talking. It makes me jump a little when it first starts cause she talks so loud.

YES, it is definitely a fact, not only the sound but picture usually gets brighter also, there is an electronic device that can be built called a "Commercial Killer" the way it works is it detects both sound and picture amplification and mutes the sound but I don't know how reliable it is, I think it's adjustable though.
But it looks like "smart sound" is a better solution (built-in)

That's why there's a mute on the remote. As soon as there's a commercial break I press mute and relax in silence....get my popcorn and soda, use the bathroom, etc. I would never watch a commercial let alone listen to one.

YES! and it drives me crazy, cuz i always turn the show up, but when the commercials come on i have to turn it down. LOL...i thought i was crazy until you said something!

You are so right. We have one TV that has smart sound so you don't have to turn it down during commercials.

They are louder, we buy all our TV's with smart sound so we don't have to put up with that kinda noise.
