My 8 year old son has been pestering me to buy PS2 for the last 2 months. I have been asking among my friends and most of them rejected the idea coz it brings many problems. For the past few weeks our relationship has been bad. How do I handle him?

Use delay tactics. Say that the newer PS is better but he has to do something to earn the PS. Let him know that it's not that you don't want to buy it for him but you need the money to buy it. Give him this problem and ask him where you should get the money from. If he says from yrself or daddy, then explain to him that you need to pay bills etc.. and daddy has to work very hard. Also explain the opportunity cost of buying a PS. Usually I tell my 6 yr old son that he needs to save up either by earning pocket money from doing house chores. Or that he has to wait for his birthday or christmas before getting the gift but in the meantime it means no buying of the cheapo toys and foregoing of something else like cutting down on sweets, stop going to arcades to save the money etc.. Also when you get the PS for him, must laid down some rules first like must finish homework before playing, can only play for 1 hour etc.. PS is not bad, just need to monitor the kind of games they are playing. You can actually spend some quality time by playing the games with them. But remember to set the rules - always if they get something that distract them from proper work. The next thing they probably ask for is a handphone.

I think your son may have peer pressure. Perhaps most kids may have PS2 while he doesn't. It will be good if you know how to handle this problem tactfully. If you're on a tight budget, i suggest that you go to yahoo auction to look for a 2nd hand PS2, prices are reasonable and good. Use it as a candy treatment for him, e.g. Tops in classes, helps you with the dishes, full marks for spelling. That will encourage him to have more reasons to be a good mommy's boy. If he throws tantrum, or fails a subject in school, keep it away from him as a punishment.

xbox and PS3 expenses about Rs.20000 and if it is above your funds i does no longer propose a computing gadget improve as this can value very nearly two times the price. I propose you look ahead to a even as for the launch of PS4 or xbox 720 and then the charges of PS4 and xbox 360 will drop sharply and could probable come on your affordability selection. do not hurry and purchase a PS2. Its too old now.
