Movies don't offend me. I don't care where the actors come from, what color they are, or any of that stuff. A good movie is a good movie. Why dig for dirt?

Yes they are just films. But why can't they be "Made Up" stories? Hollywood take history, put it in their mangling machine and turn out utter and complete nonsense. Mel Gibson is an actor who takes great relish in having a go at the English. He is an American who was taken to Australia by his father in order for other members of the family to get out of the U>S draft for Vietnam.
He is also a crap actor, so up himself that he can't see the light.
How would the yanks feel if the tables were reversed and the English produced films based on complete nonsense about their short history.?
I think the reason that The American film industry depict everything about other Nations history as if the Americans did it, is because they are desperate to convince the world that they have done more than they get credit for! Their input into World culture is "Zilch" Maybe they are just jealous?

Umm, no. They're movies...Very good movies at that....especially Braveheart. Also, Mel Gibson was born in Peekskill, NY. He didn't move to Australia until he was 12 and he has always maintained his U.S. citizenship...so in regard to The Patriot...no. Braveheart was based off of a book by Randall Wallace, who is a descendant of William Wallace. Mel Gibson did not write it...he just did everything else: Directed, produced, starred in it. (Did my high school senior paper on William Wallace and Robert the Bruce).

Braveheart was massively flawed, the legend surrounding wallace is based upon the historical novel (that's novel, not biography); The Acts and Deeds of Sir William Wallace, Knight of Elderslie written by the 15th century minstrel Blind Harry 170 years after the death of wallace.
william wallace was responsible for the deaths of far more scottish people than english (let's not forget that it was still very much a clan based society back then). oh, and the french princess he was nailing in the film wasn't born until about 20 years after his death. braveheart is about as close to being a true story as jurassic park was.
the american civil war was, by definition, a civil war. a war between the english settlers, and the english. the USA was only formed afterwards, so the fact that gibson managed to make the film anti-english is testament to his bias against us.
mel gibson isn't the most intelligent person in the world. he is just an actor after all, someone who has made a living dressing up and pretending to be something he is not. unfortunately for the rest of the world, this has given him artistic license to force his ill-informed opinions upon us, through the medium of terrible films.
the guy's a tool.

Mel Gibson is also an ACTOR.
They play what the industry calls "parts" which means roles, as characters. It's like pretend.
It's not real.

I think both had some poetic license. I am scottish and certainly think that anti english feeling was stirred up by Braveheart but a sad majority of scots don't need much of an excuse to do that.

My heavens, I by no skill have been flashed, yet I did by accident flash some human beings as quickly as. i replaced into interior the wellness facility it sluggish lower back and desperate to take a stoll to the merchandising area. properly, I wasn't thinking approximately what i replaced into donning and, enable's only say that those wellness facility robes do no longer bypass away plenty to the mind's eye on the backside. The nurse got here up from at the back of me and placed a blanket over my shoulders . . . i replaced into thinking why it replaced right into slightly drafty lower back there!

Braveheart is one of my favourite films; sure, it gives an account of what English society was like in the past.
BUT it's just THE PAST...
Likewise, I should be offended by movies like Gladiator or Spartacus, by the way they describe Roman/Latin society...
BUT in fact I am not...

He`s technically American - he was born there but his family moved to Australia when he was young.
But yes he does have an anti-English bias - this is proved in his films ,why else would he portray the English as bad as he does?
