you need to get a beta. not only could you keep a beta in there, but you could add a nice plant to the bowl. the beta can feed off the roots and it will make a great centerpiece for a table! tropical fish are bad: they require a higher temp. of water. goldfish are bad: they're the dirtest tank fish and you'll need to change the water at LEAST once a week. betas are the only fish that actually survive better in smaller spaces. (in the wild, they live in small puddles of water, and jump from one to the other to breed.) hope this helps!

I think that it is cruel to put a gold fish in a one gallen bowl. I have 4 gold fish in a 30 gallon tank. Gold fish will benfit most in a larger tank with a filter. Typically you want to allow one gallon for each inch of a fish. For example, a two inch goldfish needs at least two gallons. I would suggest a betta fish, they require shallow water!

GOLDFISH CANNOT LIVE IN BOWLS, WHY THE HELL CANT YOU IGNORANT S.O.B'S GET IT INTO YOUR HEAD. Every single effin time someone asks what can go into a bowl, all you idiots say a goldfish.
Goldfish need a minimum of 10 gallons PER baby/juvenile fat fancy goldfish, and a minimum of 20 gallons PER baby/juvenile commet/common/shubunkin goldfish. Adults need a minimum of 50 gallons PER goldfish. Goldfish excrete ALOT of ammonia and need heavy filtration.

The only fish that can "survive" in that size container is a single male betta. Even then thats all he is going to do is survive. They do better and will actually "thrive" if kept in a filtered and heated aquarium of atleast 5 gallons.

Bowls are for flowers or candy, NOT fish.

None. No fish lives its full life without a filter and aerator.

Bettas are prone to fin rot, ich, and other diseases when kept in dirty water (which he will be in if you put him in a bowl), and goldfish produce way too much waste to live in a filtered 10-gallon tank, let alone a bowl.

Look into a ten-gallon tank with a filter and a heater. Your options will increase tenfold.

gotta go with the crowd on this one. One gallon isn't really a whole lotta room. Go with a beta or some kind of gold fish. (though, I've never tried a small group of Neons. That might be interesting.)
