Alot of people say they use a scanner for trading cards. But I have more than cards I want to sell. I want to sell alot of things around this house, like VHS tapes, DVD's, car amplifiers, clothes. So which would be the best investment? A scanner or camera?

Hi - really good question! For flat objects, a scanner is your best bet - you can put your cards on there. And you can put DVD covers, VHS covers, etc on the scanner bed and you're done.

As for the bigger stuff, well, you're going to need a camera.

If you look around, you'll actually be able to find both at a VERY reasonable cost; lower megapixel cameras can be had now for less than $50. Scanners with a lower DPI can be had for less than a $100 as well, so do a little search and you can find a very reasonable deal.

You will end up needing both.. Trading card sellers are very picky about condition and scans show so much more detail than pictures. I bought an all in one scanner-printer-copier for under $100 that takes good scans. You can start out with a cheap digital camera that you plug into your computer to download the pics. After selling a while you can upgrade.. if you have any money left after Fe-eBay takes out their fees..

Scanner for the trading cards for sure, unless you can find pics of the internet that you can use. For DVD's, VHS tapes and CD's, for the majority of your more popular titles, eBay already has pics that can be added to your listing for free, so there will be no need to photo & scan.

That being the case, I would get both and use the scanner for the cards and the camera for the other stuff.
You could use the camera for the cards too, but I don't think it would look as good as an image that was scanned.

I think you answered your question for yourself. yes, if you are just going to sell flat things, like cards, a scanner makes it very easy. But for the kind of things that won't fit on a scanner very well, you will need a camera. You will need to upload them to Ebay's server or to a photo hosting site and them link them to your auction. It's not hard to do.

a good camera should do want you want. I sell Hot Wheels cars and the pics I post are usually better than most I see on there.
Just make sure that the info is clear with no glare and shows up well on your screen before posting to Ebay.

I sold cards on ebay andI can tell you that you yeild more money for each thing you sell with pictures. I would ask a person you know to show you how to get the pics from your pc to ebay.

I would just get the camera cause you could also use it for a lot of other stuff and also, you could take pictures of the trading cards, anyway.

For DVD's, you can enter the UPC number and the picture will automatically come up. It's called a stock photo. So, you don't have to provide a picture for DVD's. Everything else, you do need a picture.

A cammera would be a better investment - you can take pictures of anything and upload them to your PC...I don't think you can scan clothes. Also, you can use the camera for anything.
