What lesson plan provides a connection between Shakespeare's Macbeth and U. S. History?

MacBird, a play by Barbara Garson, uses the framework of McBeth to explore the Kennedy assassination.
Lyndon Johnson is McBeth. I read the play years ago, but can't remember much of it.

Since the central themes of McBeth are the wrongful acquistion and misuse of power, good parallels could be drawn between LBJ, Nixon or the current administration for that matter.

Since the closest thing we have to kings in the US is the presidency, its the most logical place to draw parallels.

That is a very tough combination! I know that in nineteenth century culture Shakespeare was considered low brow culture and then in twentieth century it became high brow culture. If you come across anything, that would be an interesting interdisciplinary lesson.
