I'm sure you've encountered these type of people. If not, consider yourself fortunate. These people assume (you know what they say about assumptions) that based upon your ethnicity, that you "OBVIOUSLY" carry yourself in a certain manner? When you prove them wrong, they actually get offended? Any thoughts?

I think the next time someone does that to me, I might have to break into my "Snoop-dog" mode and just start pimp slappin' people! "My pimp hand is strong fools!"

It's the same thing people do when I tell them I have a white girlfriend, or that im Buddhist, and that I like rock and techno. Yeah I'll admit that some of those things are a abnormal for African Americans, but I find it ignorant to think that every singe African American would be the same.
Same goes for any other ethnic background.

It is human nature to love to "pigeon hole" things. People tend to want to classify everything, and everyone by their characteristics. And for somethings, such as science, this can be useful. But when we are talking about human behavior, it is useless to attempt to "pigeon hole" or classify people. Some would count all Irish to be red-heads and members of the Roman Catholic Church. Some would automatically classify every Mexican citizen of the United States as a registered Democrat by political affiliation. These are simple illustrations; but in reality, they are true of how most people think.
It is simply the frustration that some people feel that you are seeing. Some people are so controlling of everything that they will not tolerate something that does not fit "in its proper category." It does not make any sense to me, but I have seen this over and over. I have even heard people of this controlling type say "she/he is not supposed to feel that way." SERIOUSLY! It is just another form of bias, of assuming that everyone one of a certain race WILL think, act and feel a certain way. And if someone does not, then the whole world is out of balance in their thinking! And as strange as that sounds, it is how some people think, and it is why they get offended at someone like you, who has chosen to be an "individual."

There's no explaining ignorance. It's best to spend time on doing your own thing, and being the you that you want to be, as opposed to trying to figure out how ignorant people's minds work.
Rather then get offended, I find that people tend to go on the offensive when they realize that you don't fit the mold of their expectations. It seems as if they try to take out their frustration on not being able to pigeon-hole someone on the person who goes against the stereotype. There are all kinds of derogatory terms for people who don't act the way people expect they should based on the arbitrary categories society places them into... Just chalk it up to the price you pay for being true to yourself!

My best advice to you is to be an individual, you dont base your life on sterotype. and who cares what sterotype people put you in.
Most people whether white or black including others don't think that you are suppose to be somebody so when you are accomplishing things that "they" thought were impossible then they are offended and think that you are trying to be something your not because they they are only jealous to see that you have succeeded. I come from a good family back ground one of my parents grew up poor, the other wasnt, they married and worked very smart to be able to afford a 400,000.00 house and nice cars for a middle class family. we has there kids are doing well but we still act crazy hang out with our friends and party but come sun-thur its all about business.
so dont buy into the sterotype mess from no race, race didnt limit you from being who you want to be, your an individual and part of being an individual is being unique. so do you and play on playa. Holla back (lol)

It's understandable that they feel this way. Some people are just slow to change and others may not even cope up with it. What they have always believe, they will keep.
The most important thing is to be what you are. Be happy and comfortable with it. We don't need to answer for anybody with regard to our actions or views. But then, respect what it will mean or affect those people around you.
We can't change people or alter their views or personality. It's up to them to decide for this.
Just hang on!

The only reason that 'PEOPLE' get offended when you look out of place, is because you are the only one being yourself. Take it from me, when things get to be out of place especially when everyone thinks its you, then the friends you think you have don't truly know about the real friend you are

It is unfortunately human nature to want to sterotype and ridicule those who don't fit in with societies norms. But you know what they say, when you assume, you make an @ss out of u and me.So as far as I'm concerned you are entitled to 'nah nah nah nah nah 'them, and it's their problem if they are offended.

i am guilty of your problem and my only explanation for this is that its easier for ppl to know what to expect for you if they can class you into a stereotype me im always put into the "dumb blonde" catagory then i died my hair for fun and and if a silly coment or a dumb question came out rong it was " you shure were a natural blonde" when in fact every one has brain farts and scew up what they are trying to say once and awile why stereotype us!?!?!?!?!?

Sorry I don't expect anyone to behave a certain way. I am always pleased when people don't embarrass themselves no matter their race or sex.
