How far is "nearby"? Is there an option for moving your PC? Can you arrange for a phone line to be installed near your computer?

If not there is still hope. A phone wire goes from the phone jack in the wall to a little box, a DSL modem, which also needs a power plug. So route a phone wire toward your PC, and stop off near a power outlet so you can put the DSL modem there. There is another wire, an ethernet patch cable, Cat 5 or Cat 6 with RJ45 plugs on either end. It goes from the DSL modem to your computer. You can get one of them 50 feet long at any computer store.

Plug the DSL modem into any phone jack. Plug a wireless router into the DSL modem. A little set up and, voila, you have wireless internet in your place. If you have a desktop PC, you'll probably need to get a wireless LAN card or USB attachment.
