Anybody seen this movie? What did you think of it? I thought it was funny.

My favorite part: Two of the guys are in the movie theater when the third comes in on the chain gang...one says to him in a loud whisper: "We thought you was a toad!" Just imagine what you would think if he said that to you....

It was a decent film, but it was ultimately mediocre compared to the Coen brother's greatest efforts, such as Fargo, Barton Fink, Raising Arizona and Blood Simple. The main problem with this film that separates it from the others is the complete lack of subtlety and nuance in the characters; every one of them seems like a completely ignorant, buck-toothed and wide-eyed southern stereotype. Also, this film is uncharacteristically slapstick, and the overwhelming physical comedy always seems ready to send the film to its breaking point.
It is a funny film, and the soundtrack is incredible, but considering how interesting the concept is (a romanticized adaptation of The Odyssey in the mythical South) and how lacking the film is in other very important aspects, every time I view it I see it as a missed opportunity, and reflect on the masterpiece that it could have been. I give it 2 out of 4 stars.

I though it was a good film. Very funny and if you've read 'The Odyssey' you will find it even funnier because there are lots of inside jokes. However my favorite film by the Coen brothers is still 'The Big Lebowski'
