my sense tells me the comment is generally associated with the complinter feeling jealousy or envy. why else would the phrase be presented with such awkward feelings. however, if the complienter says, "wow, thats terrific" or im so happy for you, then yes i believe there is geniouness involved. but, i think "good for you" is a comment made out of feeling forced to feel happy towards another, yet the complineter truly revealed their jealousy.

Honestly, it can be taken either way. I think it really depends on the tone of voice. A kid though, would probably take it as a compliment, a teenager, an insult, and an adult, would be confused I suppose. I don't really know lol

I think it would depend on what the conversation was about, or
what had happened. It could be an insult or a compliment.
When I bought a new car several years ago. Someone who was
very jealous said, well good for you. I knew it was an insult, so I said, yes, it is very good for me.

Depends on the situation, and the body language that goes with it. If I say good for you and roll my eyes, that would be an insult but if I say well, good for you and slap your back lightly, that is a compliment.

It depends on how it's said regardless of the age of the person being spoken to. I do know that most children don't like to be called "kiddo" though. It's condescending.

It's all in the tone of voice. Of course if this questions includes the written word, I'm not helping you much. It can be a positive thing, even as an adult.

You must consider the source of the comment and the tone of it. I have a friend who is says that all of the time, and she means it in the nicest way possible.
I know other people who just say it being nasty. No definite answer on this one.

I think it depends on the person's intent, tone of voice, and body language to identify. We use what we have learned from childhood in our adulthood, sometimes unconciously, for the good or the bad.

It can be either way depending on how you say it. I still use in a good way even with adults and i even said that myself today LOL.
If a person a person said it in a attitude way then of course it wouldn't be good.

It can be both or maybe the person just didn't know what to say. Sometimes when I'm really busy and someone is telling me something I tell them the easiest thing I can think of so they will go away.
