Try doing Start/Programs/Application/Tools/System Restore. Click back on the date before you had the problem. See if that works for you.

1. First try it with add-remove program from control panel.
2.If it shows `the file is in use now', then boot the PC in safe mode and try again removing it through add-remove program
3.You can remove the installation through `device manager'
4.System restore is final option but along with mixer devices all the other changes after that point will also be rolled back. So keep this option as last one.
In any circumstances you won't need to wipe off PC for this problem.

Add/Remove Programs / Windows Components / add device.

Please don't wipe out your computer over the mixer device! You can always just remove your sound driver, and re-install it.
