The people who say that is because they haven't looked into it. The evidence is very confusing and suggests that he definitely did not kill himself. To be perfectly honest, this is my theory on what happened. I don't necessarily believe that there was a great conspiracy about his death, and while I can see Courtney, in some delusional state, offering money to have Kurt killed, I don't think she could go through with it. I do think she knows what may have really happened, though, especially seeing as it has been proven that the handwriting on Kurt's note that implies that said note is a suicide note is clearly not his. This is all possible as there was no proper autopsy conducted and Kurt's body was cremated (against his wishes, apparently).
It was said that a fatal dose of heroin was found in Kurt's system. I assume that he wrote a very emotional note about how he was going to break up Nirvana and leave Courtney and needed an extra bit of junk to calm him down after carrying out such a thing. I believe that he overdosed on heroin. Someone found him, perhaps Michael DeWitt or Courtney herself. I believe that Kurt was shot in the head after he died in order to make it seem as if he did not die the pathetic death of a junkie, but rather offed himself due to depression. This would explain the suspicious activity around the disposal of Kurt's corpse (in order to deter future investigators from realizing that the heroin killed him as opposed to the gunshot wound, which is likely post-mortal).
I'm curious that I've seen nobody else put forth this theory, especially when it is well known that so much heroin was in Kurt's system. There is no way that he would have been able to aim a shotgun at his head he was heavily strung out As well, the gun was wiped clean of fingerpints. Something doesn't add up, and I believe that my hypothesis is closer to the truth than anyone has declared.

Kurt Cobain did kill himself. No matter what rumors of some murder theories are out there, he did it himself. I was, and still am, a HUGE Nirvana fan, and even I faced the fact that Kurt offed himself. He was messed up in the head and had many issues he just couldn't cope with.

Kurt's death was faked & now he's living with Elvis & Tupac. Heard they're coming out with a collaboration album with a new sound which has yet to be classified by record labels. Word is it will be big.

Haven't heard about any major investigation regarding his death I think as a matter of fact that the case is closed. Also you never hear of Courtney out in public pushing the fact that he was murdered......Hey wait ............ is Courtney... the killer?

Kurt was killed by Courtney. End of story , until you think the worst part is she got away with it . She was nothing before him , so she traded his life for her crappy career , she is a joke .

Sorry to burst your bubble dude, but Kurt indeed did kill himself.
He was going through depression, which is one of the reasons for his drug abuse, and suicide is not uncommon among depressed people.
I know, I've been there.
