Find out all you can about the place before you get there. Read up on the history of the town. People who have lived there awhile will assume you and everyone knows what has happened there the last 10 or 20 years. You should also try to find a place to live you can afford but that is in the part of town where your peers live. That may take a while to figure out. Your fiance's place of employment may have people who do relocations and will help you through it. There are a lot of people in real estate who will show you around town, if all else fails.

Maybe you should go there and see what it's like and if you would like it there first before really moving there, or you can move there first and find that out later ... Since it's a different town and state, the people, culture and things there may be different from what you are used to... So, prepare for some new things and change. Also, find out about where you can live before moving there ... and think about how secured the job is ...

Before doing anything...be 100% sure the engagement is going to end up in marriage. Don't get in a position to be stranded.

Beyond that, just typical things starting with finding a place to live. Get to know the areas as to good and bad. Consider commuting times. Most places require leases, so you have to think at least a year ahead. Plan to have all utilities turned on and phone ordered.

Make sure every one necessary gets a change of address. Eventually, you will have to get another drivers license and local insurance.

Decide what you "really" need to take with you. Garage sale or give away the rest. Set up how it will be moved. Rental truck or moving company?

Then..just enjoy the adventure.

It is really hard to do if this is your first time. You will need a trip to look for a place to live before the actual move. You need to get a Realtor to help with leasing or buying a place. A good Realtor will keep in contact with you and help you find employment. (or at least point you to the right people) It will be difficult to get started making friends so expect that issue. Just get out and visit stores. Learn the streets and you will feel more at home.

Well, ok, depends on your work and social ethics, make sure you look around first to where you want to work too. Then if you have a big social life, and likes to go outdoors and have a fun and happy life, i would stay out of really small towns, because they are really boring! They may not work for your lifestyle, depending what type of lifestyle you live and what you are used to. I live in a small town, it's sorta safe, but it's not as fun anymore.

I just moved to newfoundland canada from vegas because my boyfriend took a mining job. I wanted to be with him and visa-versa. It's different and I can't work because of Immigration laws but I am going to try and write a book. .Go with the flow and enjoy the adventure. Keep your eyes open for new opportunities you wouldn't have had otherwise. The Chamber of Commerce can help you with any questions you may have in your new location. Have a ball!

Yes. Start looking NOW for a job if you need one. It's always very hard to get settled in and it can really throw things out of whack to suddenly find that you have to take what there is.
