I have ovarian cysts so I have irregular periods. Well I havent had a period since April, and I have done 3 home pregnancy tests and the have all read positive. I'm so apprehensive about getting my hopes up!

False positive urine pregnancy test is uncommon. However it does happen sometimes, and the presence of a hCG secreting ovarian cyst is one of the possible cause of a false positive result.

I think you should see your doctor as soon as possible. A simple ultrasound scan would be able to tell you whether you are pregnant or not

Ovarian cysts won't create a false positive

yes yes yes

i had one 20 some years ago... tested positive pregnant... i remember being in wonder that i could test positive then negative then positive i think it was...it was messy... ---i was picking out baby names even, that was how definite it was!! then i think i started to spot and had it checked out and there were problems...

turned out i had a very large cyst in left ovary, which later did burst in about a week, which later caused problems...doctor had said if didnt go away on its own in a week he was going to operate...

i ended up with an ectopic pregnancy (my third child) about 15 years later in that tube because it became slower to flow (i knew that already tho because i had had a test years before ectopic pregnancy and the blue dye did not flow well in that left tube they said)...fortunately, my second child (the one after the cyst) apparently came down the other tube...

i think some are prone to them and these cysts can cause problems becoming pregnant... i believe that i have had others because i get the bouncy heaviness in the sides now and then... they stretch in there so it feels like it is pulsating too sometimes...

the ectopic was another mess, pregnant home tests positive 3 times...doctors office negative...but i knew something was not right... pain in stomach from time to time at first...then it went away but spotting but i spot with my first child... eventually it hemorhaged and i lay on my left side knowing the issue until doctor got the ultrasound to confirm...there were clots all over...i saw them... i also did get a glimpse of the fetus and she listened loudly for a heartbeat...none... she wouldnt let me leave at first til the head there checked the scan...i was told i was in no immediate danger...of course, i already hemorhaged and clotted...(it was thanksgiving time and i lifted laundry and then felt the pain wrapping around my belly in circles which they kept asking me about...another sign is pain in your shoulders...i went to lay down and i think i actually passed out cuz i slept for over 2 hours and awoke with heavier bleeding...didnt want a hack job during holidays... and i had faith i would be okay...)

after the ectopic i had the same problem in about a month and ran to a regular doctor because i thot i had appendicitis it hurt so bad...he was concerned because the left tube was cauterized and i only had the one left and wasnt sure yet about more babies...i got several shots from him, painful shots...he was very concerned and thot that he could feel a cyst in that tube.... he told me that when you are pregnant the body generally develops a cyst in the other ovary....

they say once you have one ectopic you generally have another... i never had another child...

you may have a cyst or an ectopic pregnancy...why do you think you have a cyst??? pain ??? i hemorhaged at 3 months pregnant....

I wouldn't believe so because the home pregnancy tests use a particular hormone that doesn't show up until the egg is fertilized.

I don't think so. But know that pregnancy can cause a cyst in the ovaries.
