I agree about that Hallelujah song by Rufus Wainright. If you don't know, some of the Coldplay songs are depressing too. Chris Martin said so in one interview. Nirvana songs are filled with catchy tunes and depressing lyrics. The Smiths, The Cure.. those 80's bands. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. There you go!

My favorite bands are Silverstein and Hawthorne Heights. Most of the songs are fairly depressing. (Especially on Hawthorne Height's second CD.) Also, the lyrics are amazing. Even on a day when you're happy, the lyrics are great to listen to, and both bands have a unique sound. I'd definitly recommend checking these Cd's out.

Hell ya Les Miz is dark and heavy, talk about a musical LOOKING for a ray of hope....

one day more

empty chairs, empty tables

red and black

on my own

little fall of rain

the list is vast on that one, just take your pick. Comparring it to "Phantom" is like the difference between shooting a bullet and throwing it. They had to make the Thenadiers (the bad guys) the comic relief just so the whole thing wasn't COMPLETELY depressing for crying out loud.
