With all the money that his family has and all the people they own I don't think any of the Kennedy's were ever considered normal at all at least by normal standards that is.
His being a senator is another political joke as far as I'm concerned and as for the death of that poor dead Mary Jo Kopechine well, that's another rich politician who got away with murder.
With his brothers dead he believes that he is still the best of what remains of that family and if someone can get away with murder then that must make him feel invincible to everything and everyone too.
Maybe he and Bush went to the same school for learning how to lie and pass the blame else where and never say I'm sorry I made a mistake.

Well, set the murder thing aside. I am a conservative, but Ted Kennedy's views are not that extreme, compared to world politics. He is just not very frugal! He wants the same thing everyone else wants: what is best for everyone and to help people, but his ideas come with (arguably) too high of a pricetag. And that's it. He is pretty in line with the interests of his constituents, and I'm assuming the person who wrote the question is from MA? But I don't always agree with his solutions. Some of the posts here seem to have some problems with Senators in general. Watch CSPAN2 before you judge. Also, if you don't like something, run for office!! Do something, rather than complaining.

Ted Kennedy has been a senator for 44 years and was member of a privileged family before that. For good or ill, he has never been a normal American.
As an example, was forced to withdraw for two years from Harvard in May 1951 after he was caught cheating on his final examination in a Spanish class. Kennedy then entered the U.S. Army for two years and was assigned to the SHAPE headquarters in Paris. He eventually re-entered Harvard, graduating in June 1956. An ordinary person wouldn't have got a second chance in those circumstances.
He was elected to the Senate to replace his brother in 1962. He has been growing further out of touch each year.

None of the Kennedys have ever had any idea what it is to be a normal American. They're referred to as "American royalty" for good reason.
Well, maybe Jack got a taste when he was in the Navy. And Bobby certainly seemed empathetic toward normal people, but he may have just had a good imagination. Ted...uh, well, how many normal guys would have skated after Chappaquiddick?

Ted Kennedy has NEVER been a normal American. Remember, he is the brother of both John and Robert, who were President and Attorney General.
His father was Joseph Kennedy, best known as a bootlegger and smuggler of Irish whiskey, and to a lessor extant, a smuggler of Heroin.
Ted was born into money and power, so as I stated before, he has never been a normal American.

Forget Kennedy, most politicians in general have forgotten what it's like to be a regular American. Washington, D.C. is a fantasyland.
Most politicians are pretty wealthy, the average American is not.
