Oh yes Cale Yarbourogh was a beast! One of the better drivers to ever strap themselves in a race car.Cale is a big part of NASCAR'S phenomenal growth and not just because of his driving talent.Once upon a time when NASCAR was still only being shown occasionally on T.V. during a telecast of a race (I think it was Daytonna 500) it seems that Cale and Donnie Allison had some rubbin & racin going on and it ended with both drivers out of their cars gettin it on. Well then along comes Donnie's brother Bobby Allison (you remember him, sure you do) well the next thing you know they had a full blown battle royal going on.The T.V. ratings went through the roof .NASCAR has never looked back, but has enjoyed continued fan growth ever since.I would like to take a moment to say that I agree with aqua concerning Davey Allison and Jeff Gordon had Davey lived I dont think Gordon would have had the same amount of sucess I even posted a question on this subject.Back to Cale if I recall corectly he drove the Hardee's car and his number was 28. Cale was always one of the drivers you had to beat if you were going to win races back in that day,and I think he retired way to soon I think he still had a lot to offer when he quit.

Cale was great! He's still one of my all time favorite drivers.
I never remember Cale being referred to or called a "dirty driver". In the old days a "dirty driver" would get what's coming to him after the checkered flag fell. The cars were not as safe as they are today and dangerous driving was less tolerated by the other drivers. Y
I long for the days when drivers were full grown men. Guys like Cale, David Pearson, Junior Johnson, and A.J. Foyt, are not given enough credit for what they built for todays millionare kiddies who think they're racers.
BTW, in 71 it was called the Nascar Grand National series. Winston Cup came later.

Cale Yarborough. Do you mean the only stock car driver to ever win 3 Winston Cup Championships in a row? Yeah, he was one of the legends. Miss the old days sometimes.

I used to hate Dale Sr because I thought he was a dirty driver. I learned later before he died that it was skill. After Petty... the greatest driver of all time. (Boo Jeff Gordon Boo)
