In the mid-1990's I read an article in Time Magazine about an "Adam" gene and an "Eve" gene - each being present in every male (Adam) and female (Eve) human being on the planet. I am trying to research this for a book I am writing, and am unable to find the original article, or anything written at a layperson level. If anyone can direct me to a reputable site or page I would greatly appreciate the favor. The only site I have located that didn't require chemistry/medical background started out great, then began to unravel, telling tales of spores being deposited on earth from a planet far, far away!

What you are talking about is mitochondrial DNA which is pass on from mother to daughter. This is how people have been traced back to a single caveman (Lucy) or could be traced to Adam and Eve. Try some internet searches for mitochondrial DNA.

If ALL humans really came from Adam and Eve, then Adam and Eve wouldn't have to have every gene in our genepool. I don't know enough about genetics to tell you if that's even possible. Just think about the obvious stuff: They'd need to have the genes for red hair, brown hair, and black hair. They'd need to have the genes for a small about of skin pigment and for a large about of skin pigment. They'd need to have the genes for green eyes, blue eyes, and brown eyes.
