You might want to take a Red Cross or SafeSitter Babysitting course.

1. Keep in mind what time it is. Don't give the kids sugar at bedtime.
2. Dress to interact with the kids. It's not your job to watch TV.
3. Be on time if you are getting there yourself.
4. Be respectful.
5. Don't be afraid to sugar-coat conversations with the parents on the phone... just don't lie about your qualifications, age, etc.
6. Look around your parent's work to find clients.
7. Stay calm in the face of danger, smelly diapers, and annoying twins.
8. Don't be afraid to enjoy your time being a babysitter.

Babysitting is fun and it can also be tough. Good luck! : )

First thing is CPR, and that emergency contact stuff... and then you have to know about what age you are willing to watch and are able to watch without difficulty. I was 14 when I started and the kids were about 10 months and 6 yrs. So with them I was able to interact with them at the same time and the 6 year old was willing to help me, but basically have games fit for the age and good snacks and movies. The younger they are the more interaction and the older you can let them help decide what they wanto do. But, they know and realize that you are a first timer...trust me they will try to test you and see what they can get away with...I remember when my best friend and I use to babysit for a church at the members' houses and one of the little boys "ran away" because everyone didn't wanto watch his favorite movie, so be sure to ready for every situation possible...

well how to react around children. if you want to get into baby sitting.. the best thing i would advise you to do before you look after children on your own is to ask someone in your family that has children if you can look after them while the parents are there. this will give you a little experience and build up your confidence around children.

parents that are letting someone babysit thier children are looking for someone who is responsible, caring towards thier children and mature. also a first aid certificate is a good bonus.

Be calm, kind and patient with them because kids can be a hassle. Play with them like your their brother or sister, and they will end up loving you and you'll have fun. NO CANDY it sends them wild and crazy, don't worry if they get mad at you kids get over it real quick. Then go back to their sweet playful way. I'm 13
