Hello! I just got my tongue pierced yesterday. It has been something I have always wanted since I was 18, regardless of the rude comments to follow. Anyhoo, I am adjusting well. I was even able to eat a burger today(in small bites of course!), but my tip of my tongue is numb. Not all the way, it just feels like it a little bit. I have been taking advil and eating ice for the swelling. Any clur as to what this could mean?? Is this normal??

Thanks to eveyone for all the great comments so far...I really appreciate them! FYI--I am a nurse, and I know signs of infection. I have been checking it every hour for them, so all of you who say "I'm a doctor"....you can just not comment. Thanks all, and keep em coming!!!

well sounds like your doin fine so far, i would not have recommend you eatin solid yet, but each their own, just keep doin what you are doin and wait for a long while before you start playin with it, it will aggrevate it, be sure you rinse with mouth wash all the time, i mean every time you eat or drink keep it clean, i think that is it, if you have any other problems or questions contact me

It's normal. You may feel numbness in other areas as your tongue as well. When I got mine done, it started at the tip of my tongue and moved to the sides. Not entirely sure what causes it, just that it involves severing nerves in your tongue. You'll get feeling back in no time. Little advice...stay away from starches like pasta and potatoes till the piercing heals up...they can cause infection...I learned the hard way :D.

Make sure you keep your mouth EXTREMELY clean until it heals. I did get an infection in my tongue but I didnt follow the piercers instructions on no wet kissing and no other stuff. Luckily I didnt have to get my tongue cut off but I removed my tongue ring that day.

i had mine pierced before. i'm sure it's normal, although i don't remember if the tip was numb or not. i'd say if it doesn't get some feeling back within the next day or so, you may want to look into it. did the piercer say anything about it or what to expect? Congrats on your piercing.

It's absolutely normal! no worries. It might take around 5-6 days till it gets better... the best thing to do now is to forget about it..i mean don't think about it at all..do whatever and keep urself busy
get well dear :)

Very normal and yes you can eat solid foods now. Heck, you could have eaten them right after getting it pierced.

Although I spent most of medical school in a drunken stupor, I can call these things when I see them- and sweetie, you have Horse Syphilis.
