I've been labelled a liberal bedwetter. I don't mind being called either, but I'd like to know the reason. Liberal indicates a viewpoint. usually the opposite of conservative.; But bedwetter really only inidcates a physical handicap.

Conservative bedwetters only piss on other people's beds who are not in their social circle. Liberal ones try to find an equal dampness for all beds.

I guess bedwetting was seen to be a trait of more nervous, less strong-willed characters. A mental/emotional flaw rather than a physical one.

When used in that context (i.e., "liberal bedwetter") is often meant to imply that a person's political beliefs are likely to result in the loss of the majority's basic freedoms and liberties due to a failure to stand up and fight the enemy, whether the "enemy" be internal or external.

The phrase is intended to be synonymous with other pejorative words like "sissy", "pushover", "nervous", "timid", etc. I think it was first used by critics of the Carter Administration in the late 1970s in association with their failure to use means of force to get the America hostages back from Iran.

It foreign affairs, it essentially means that when attacked, you would rather turn the other cheek and negotiate instead of taking an eye for an eye and fighting. In the context of criminal law, it means you would rather try to rehabilitate a murderer than put him to death. In economic matters, it means that you are the type of person who wants wealth to be redistributed on some level, rather than having the chips fall where they may.

In the context of foreign affairs, what Israel is now doing in Lebanon would be the OPPOSITE of being a "liberal bedwetter." What the United States is doing in Iraq, including killing terrorist leaders, would also be the OPPOSITE of being a "liberal bedwetter."

At a micro-level, a "liberal bedwetter" would be the kind of person who would sit back and try to negotiate with a man who was raping his wife rather than putting a bullet in the guy's head.

Get in the game lady.

Because we have a tendancy to stereotype most groups. In ignorance, it can be taken as slow to mature. Typically, it's either a physical condition or and emotional one brought on by the family environment.

So, they're saying your liberal views aren't very mature or that of a "real man"

well, there are a lot of pejorative terms out there that are just plain silly, especially the ones that call to childlish behaviour, like, bedwetter, whinny, crybaby, etc.

A similar one is the brittish: Bleeding Heart!

What about party pooper? LOL

Conservatives love emotional slurs like that. Liberals use thought.

Wouldn't you say it was pejorative? It's the sort of language narrow-minded fascists use to ridicule someone who thinks before they speak. Ignore it.
