Aside from the asthetics, black absorbs more light rays than the other colors, converting the surface into a solar collector. That's great for heating water, but not so good for your home where you want to cut down on energy usage from cooling.

Well...it's kinda ugly for a house, for one...plus, black absorbs heat like crazy, which would send the electric bills through the roof in the summer (A/C in a furnace colored home would be a bee-atch!)

It is the hardest to cover up if you do not like it. I would suggest a dark brown before using black.
Also, Black has a lot of up keep with it. Due to it fading. So you may have to touch up each year.

It's very popular here for trim but not for the body of a home. seems it would make your home very hot plus it would be ugly.

IT CAN BE USED AS TRIM BUT AS A WHOLE COLOR IT WILL BE SO UNECONIMICLE ON YOUR UTILITY BILLS---IN SUMMER YOUR HOUSE WILL BE INSANELY HOT, IT'S THE SAME FOR BLACK ROOFS.
