You are referring to bank notes which had lost all monetary value far back. In fact the joke at the time went as follows: A man was going out to purchase coal for his stove but he was advised by the neighbours to get Mark notes instead since they are cheaper to coal.The notes may have if at all any commemoratiie value.You can still enquire at the banks if the notes are legal tender or have been demonetised or could be exchanged for current notes.

i am in DC this week and in Falls Church VA. on highway 29 Lee highway, there is a bank that advertises that it will take old forign money

sell it on www.ebay.com , that old money will not transfer into new money....
