I have suffered with this high pitch ringing sound in my ears mainly the left one for one year now.It all started after a bad cold last year, its the ringing gets better but it is always there. When its really bad its like someone just flicked a switch and this high pitch noise starts. It then brings on panic attacks and starts to really freak me out. I have been to every doctor and specialist out, even had brain scans but nothing is wrong. Can anyone please give me any help if you know of anything that may relieve this horrible lifestyle. When its really bad I also feel pressure in my ears, one starts thinking that your having a heart attack and things like that, I feel like I am going mad, wouldnt wish it on my worse enemy. So if any of you out there have this and know of anything that may help, please do tell.Bye the way I have tried the tea's and pills, etc etc, even tried Hyno, and massage. Nothing works.

My poor husband had this too and it drove him mad. He had to see several doctors before he found relief. It is true there is no cure - but there is help. Some men find hay-fever tablets work, some ear candling, and there are many other drugs to help you just have to experiment. My hubby found Pebonin (I think that's how to spell it) was the best for him. Good luck my friend I feel very sorry for you, knowing how miserably it has made my hubby's life.

So what help is there? Personally I don't believe in herbal remedies or medications that claim to specifically treat

tinnitus. What is true is that they can help you with an underlying problem such as depression, and that the benefits of

feeling better due to the medication taking effect can greatly reduce tinnitus. The reason for this is simple: tinnitus'

worst enemy is stress. The more stressed you are the louder you perceive your tinnitus to be. If you are depressed you will

naturally feel more stressed about life in general than you would if you weren't depressed.

Your general wellbeing also affects tinnitus. The healthier you are the less strain your body has to deal with. Changing to

a healthier diet, stopping smoking, the less caffeine you intake and learning to relax on a regular basis all help you

reduce and take control of tinnitus. If you can find ten minutes every day, preferably at the same time each day, and just

concentrate on relaxing you will soon notice that your tinnitus is substantially reduced around about the time you are

relaxing and for quite some time after. Try and add more ten-minute pockets of relaxation each day if you have the time.

Tinnitus management
Now that you know what causes tinnitus, how can you treat it? In the absence of an established cure, treatment programs

should include not only adjusting to the sensation of constant noise, but also learning to live with the numerous negative

consequences that may be associated with the problem.

Research has emerged suggesting tinnitus is both an audiological and psychological phenomenon, activating three areas of

the brain:
1) Central auditory nervous system, which determines which sounds you pay attention to,
2) Limbic system, which is responsible for emotions and some memory processes, and
3) Autonomic nervous system, which manages the stress and relaxation responses.

Many tinnitus sufferers experience considerable emotional distress and display thought patterns, beliefs, and behaviors

that are similar to those in patients with depression, anger, and anxiety. Research consistently shows that cognitive-

behavioral therapy, a well-respected form of psychotherapy, can be useful in managing the emotional, thought, and

behavioral difficulties of people with tinnitus.

Sometimes hearing aids that emit a 'friendly' sound will help to mask the more annoying/debilitating sound of tinnitus. Has your dr or specialist suggested anything like that? If not, it might be worth looking into...
