My advice is to go with the official Disney package. There's no need to get a middle man involved. My fiance and I are getting married at Disney and they are taking care of everything, from the food at the reception to all the decorations. Disney has the infrastructure to handle everything necessary for a vacation getaway. And by doing everything through Disney, you'' get access to meal plans and deals that you wouldn't get anywhere else.
And from what I hear, travel agencies often get things wrong. My fiance used to work at one of the resorts on property. It's really your best bet to book everything with Disney because they know what they're doing, everything is handled within the company, and if something goes wrong, they will be more accomodating and helpful (which usually means free upgrades). Good luck!

The best way is through the website... all other sites get the tickets and what not from the Walt Disney Company anyway, so you're probably not going to find a better deal. You won't find a greater package on a different site.
And I've compared rates on sites like Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc., and all their room rates cost at least $50 more per night.
Think about it... when you buy a Disney package from another site, they have to contact the Walt Disney Company and book all the arrangements... so either you can do it yourself, get a decent deal, and be very satisfied with your purchase, or pay extra for some other company to book with WDW for you.

The "official" Disney packages are a much better deal than they used to be, especially as opposed to a travel agent that doesn't know the Disney system very well.
I have used Small World Vacations (http://www.wdwvacations.com/) in the past and been very pleased, usually saving several hundred dollars over what I would have paid if I had booked straight with Disney.
Small World *only* does Disney travel, so they are able to keep up with the ever-changing Disney system of discount codes and short-terms offers. (They have even refunded me money in the past when a better discount offer became available for the same accomodations I had already booked!) They also have full access to EVERYTHING you can get direct from Disney, as well as some additional services that Disney does not offer. (They have also arranged for special-needs services, anniversery suprises, and other things that either I could not get direct from Disney, or that Disney was MUCH more expensive for.)

I assume that you are looking to save money, or possible wanting someone to help you plan the trip.
If you are wanting to save money, you just have to watch for promotions (if you are wanting to stay onsite) that you can use to lower your rates, just be sure that the dates you will be going aren't already done with promotions.
Other than that, you can check sites like Orbitz, Expedia, Travellocity, etc. However, I don't really recommend. The first reason, they have a lot of problems with getting bookings correct. But the other reason, you can't get a package and the room only rates run higher than the prices at Disney. It is usually only a few dollars, but I wouldn't pay more to book with them.
If you are wanting an agent, there are tons of great sites online that are travel agencies specializing in Disney. Just look around and see which one works best for you.
You can also check with AAA, but I find they aren't real helpful with the booking either. Basically, they book the room for you and that is it.
I hope this helps!

Some basic questions come to mind as you only mentioned your intentions and not any specifics(I am Owner of a Travel Agency):
1-Do you have a departure/return date in mind?
2-How many are going?
3-Assuming you want an economical package, do you have a Travel budget in place?
Lots of Disneyland packages are out there, and as in all Travel, are based on availability. If you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger with what you have in mind, we can see what current Disneyland travel packages are available that fit your timeframe and budget.
