How do employers check on potential employees who write in their own blogs about their present companies?

Depends on the job, the more sensitive the job (i.e. FBI, etc...) the more likely they will search a blog or other parts of the Internet. Generally, most copies do not do these kinds of searches as a matter of policy. But, individual hiring mangers/recruiters may at times do a search just to see if anything comes up. The "official" back round check is still the main may to "check" on you. I'm sure eventually these companies will start to offer this as part of there services.

If it's on the internet, it's open to anyone. They could google you and find it. Even if you never use your real name, they could hire someone to find out if you have a blog, through your IP address and other things, but I don't most companies would bother with that.
