I guess we all have heard that president Bush vetoed the bill regarding the usage of embryos cells in order produce new organs.

My question is where do fertility clinics get the embryos from?
1) Do people working at the clinics fertilize an egg with a sperm cell in a laboratory and this is where they get the actual embryos from?
2) Do they get embryos from women who decided to abort their pregnancy?

The second question is connected to the first one: There are many women that are forced by their situation to have an abortion. Would it be possible for them once they abort the pregnancy and if the fetus were frozen, place it back to the uterus if they wish to do it? Thanks!

the embryo's come from women who have done invitro, when they do invitro they harvest many, many eggs and fertilize them because the procedure takes a lot of time and can be difficult on the women. when they actually implant them the embryos they usually implant 2-4 at a time the remainder are frozen in case the procedure doesn't take and needs to be repeated. If the procedure takes and results in a pregnancy then most couples don't repeat the procedure and the frozen ones are just left frozen indefinitely. many couples have started adopting these embryo's out to other infertile couples, but this is a fairly new concept. Which to me makes a lot more since than giving them up for research or stem cell research which either way means they are killing a baby. At least if it's adopted out then it would stand a chance at life.

The embryos come from (2) a woman gets an abortion so they put the dead fetus to "good use" and make new organs. I'm not so sure about your second question. I know it's possible to like cryogenically freeze stuff. But I'm not sure if it would work on a fetus that's not fully developed.

But I don't think the wannabe Dad would like that because it wouldn't be his baby.

I think Bush should've passed the bill. There are so many woman getting abortions and what are they going to do with the unused stem cells? it's a waste.

I don't know enough to answer your question meaningful although I suspect that the embryos have to spend some time in a womb growing before there are enough of them for research.

I would like to make a correction. The bill in question and the previous ban only deal with FUNDING.

There is currently no limitations on stem cell research, just on federal funding of the research. This is an important distinction. It seems very reasonable to limit the use of our taxes to fund controversial research.

Those who feel strongly about this can still fund this research themselves. I am mystified why there isn't a big money raising campaign following the veto instead of so much whining.

The fetus is just going to get thrown away so I don't understand why they would waste something that could save millions of people's lives.

Yes, a women might be preventing something to live, but, in the long run she has saved millions of other lives.
