Sky blue was the color of the Royal House of the Kingdom of Italy.
The traditional colour of the national team (as well as of all Italian teams and athletes, except in motor sports) is sky blue (azzurro, in Italian), and therefore national team members are nicknamed Azzurri.

Piedmont, used to be part of France (the kingdom of Savoy). Frances' national color was blue, so when Piedmont went to Italy they used the blue from the former kingdom.

italy's football jersey is blue because their coat of arms has a blue background which is why they're known as the azzuris (the blues). as u may notice, somewhere in their jersey is the coat of arms and it does hav a blue background. so there u go, thats why their jersey is blue.
