When my boyfriend first brought me some flowers, I got a bunch of pale pink roses: this was his way to declare his love to me, and I thought it was romantic and spontaneous!
A couple of weeks later he gave me a little red rose blossom and only on that particular occasion I found the real and deep meaning of a flower as a gift. Nobody really considers a flower as something that was born sprouting from the ground and taken its water from the rain: a living thing that has been picked up just for you...and it's unique in the world: no flower looks like another and no flower is like the flower you got from a person who loves you...think about it.

Because they are beautiful, probably the most beautiful looking things in the world. Only when they are in the ground, though. Cut flowers are terrible. Their odour changes from bright and fresh to a cloying, sickly sweet stench. I am not racist in the slightest but I would have serious problems with the Hindu funeral service. That scene in the movie Ghandi, where he was covered all over in flower petals gave me nightmares. I think I would have suffocated if I had been present. There must be a religious significance in covering the body in flower petals. Does anyone know what it is?
I just realised that I asked this question in an answer so will not get an answer to it. Im going to ask it in the main menu cos I really want to know.

Ladies like flowers because they can add decoration to any area and make it look very nice. Another plus would also be because ladies love getting something special from men and flowers are just the traditional gift i guess.

Who said it was just ladies that liked flowers, nothing wrong with buying a beautiful bunch for your man either and lets face it the best gardeners and flower growers of this world are men, women just love flowers it makes them feel special and really loved when given a bunch by a guy, my hubby buys me a bunch every week, I hate chrysanthemum's though, remind me of funerals.

Personally flowers are a typical gift for a girl on the first date, why? because guys think all girls like pretty flowers, there nice but id like something original, and not so obvious.

Because it is meaningful for girls. Although its cliche...
They say that the guy really cares about you and that makes us girls feel creat and special.
They are beautiful n smell good too but I think there is more to flower giving than that. Its a romantic thought ful sweet gesture!

Romance and their association with celebration throughout our history. Flowers to celebrate weddings, festivals, decorate homes and protect against evil, and finally to mark our passing.
Just don't buy your girlfriend those petrol forecourt flowers.... just not romantic.

Because it's what we can get. We like getting gifts from men, but men aren't going to get elaborate gifts for every occassion, so flowers are good enough, sort of like fillers but in a good way. I give my boyfriend a rose whenever I can. It shouldn't go one way.
