I said it once and I'll say it again: DO NOT let some people on an Internet website decide what pet you should get. We don't know you, your personality, your living situation, your financial situation or anything else for that matter. Do you live in an appartment, a house? In the city, the country? Do you have a lot of extracurricular activities or can you spend a lot of time with your pet? Do you prefer a calm docile pet or do you like the lively ones? Do you have access to a specialized vet and can you afford one? See, there are too many things to consider. So look at yourself, your situation and take into account that you are not living alone. Life is so much easier if your family gets along and maybe even learns to love your pet as well. You could make it a family project and decide together. If you still have a hard time figuring it out, go to the local shelter and spend a few hours working there. You might get inspired by it. Good luck to you and I hope you find a wonderful companion.
Hey, once you decide which pet it is for you, you might want to visit petfinder.com. There are so many pets out there looking for forever homes and you would be doing a good thing. Besides, they are usually already socialized, have had their shots and all the shelters charge is an adoption fee. I adopted two ferret boys. They charged me $90.00 together AND the owners gave me a giant cage and accessories for free. Think about it.
BTW, ferrets aren't a good idea for beginning pet owners, this was just an example.

The best pet in the world! An American Pit Bull Terrier (A.P.B.T.)! A truly loyal, intelligent and family oriented animal. They are great with kids, don't eat that much considering their athleticism and are easily trained, always wanting to please their owners. Despite the bad reputation, these animals are actually bred to NOT attack people. When trained to fight in a pit against other dogs, there were always at least 3 people in the pit with them. Two handlers and a referee. If a dog ever went to bite a person it was immediately killed, over hundreds of years this resulted in very people friendly animals. Animal aggression runs pretty however, so this does require a more responsible owner than other animals, but this is also part of the A.P.B.T. that is so intriguing. My dogs are so friendly, yet when a golden retriever (that was beaten) got away from its owner and charged at me on a hiking trail, I simply released the leash and watched a dog who had never shown any aggression towards anything (seriously we even have pet rabbits) stand by my side and WAIT for the retriever to go for me! Yeah... it took about 3 seconds before that "nice" golden retriever started to run away. Me and my great A.P.B.T. finished our hike and filed charges against the owner, who later had to pay fines and have their dog euthanized for being too dangerous. The only thing I've noticed that A.P.B.T's are NOT good at is home protection. See, they hardly ever bark, and like I said before, were trained to NOT attack people so I have several friends who have had their dogs stolen right out of their yards! I think the positives far outweigh the negatives here. Get a A.P.B.T. from a reputable breeder and you will never want to own anything else.

For your first pet, I would get a cat. Easier to "housebreak" or in a cat's vernacular, "box train", and they don't take as much care as a dog. Kittens can get into a lot of mischief, so be careful about that. They climb on things, get into things, etc. And a lot of cats like to roam around in the night time and can get into things then. If you think about it, Your best bet is to adopt a cat that is over 1 year old, when they have calmed down a bit.
A dog takes so much more work, house training, taking in and out, etc. I love dogs, but if you are going to be responsible for this new pet of yours, take it easy on your self and try an adoptable cat first.
Good Luck, and a Pet is a wonderful companion.

First you have to ask yourself some questions. Do you want a low maintenance pet? How much time would you be willing to spend taking care of it each day? Would, you like a pet that you can hold or teach tricks to? How much room do you have for a pet? How much are you able to pay for the pet, as well as to take care of it for the rest of its life? (Tho this may not be applicable since I assume your parents will be paying.) My first pet was a mouse and it was a great learning experience. If you want something low maintenance, a leopard gecko, or possibly a turtle.

Any pet is a respponibility, and should be thought about before making a decision. If you're not going to be home a lot, then a cat is pretty self sufficient. You can adopt one from your local shelter and it may already be housebroken. If you have the time to spend with one daily, then a dog is great. Much more intelligent than a cat, and twice as loving.

A Chia Pet. Simply because, you should have researched what pet you wanted, and would best fit into the family, what care is involved and not ask strangers what you should get. It's sort of like dialing up the 911 operator and having him/her decide what kind of haircut to get. Their answer would be ' how the heck should I know?'

you need to ask yourself a few questions first: are you responsible enough to take care of the pet yourself because if your not then that doesn't really work out for you to get any pet cause they could die if you don't care for a pet correctly. how much time do you have? pets can take up alot of your time, espeacially dog because you need to walk them and play with them regularly and also if you get a reptile you need to handle them evey day, if you don't have a lot of time think about maybe getting a fish or hampster or a cat. do you have enough space? offten if you get a reptile you need space for a large cage cuz if you keep them in small cages they get stressed and depressed and if you get a bigger dog then you need room for them to exercise and play. if need any more help you can e-mail me.

My family used to have many dogs and cats. However my preference is dog. Word of caution is that whatever animal you decided, you must be able to handle and take care of them. Example for dogs - their morning & evening walks, train them (e.g. their droppings and urinatings) to discard at the proper place, bathe them etc. If you think you can't manage that, then you may want to start up with hampsters, rabbits etc that are caged or confirmed in a space. Only if you are able to do that, then you may want to go for bigger pets.

Make sure you know all the responsibility that comes with having a pet. A puppy is nice. They are a lot of work but they will return you with unconditional love.

Whatever you do.. get a pet that you will be able to take total responsibility for and to love and care for it throughout its short life. I think a dog might be the best.
