Urban legend...no more true than the legend of athletes being forbidden from engaging in sexual activity prior to a big competition.

I spent 8 years working in an OR and have a friend who is a surgeon and neither of us have ever heard of this!! Some doctors specialize themselves as General Surgeons, if that were the case they would NEVER have sex! Not to mention many times doctors do not know when they are going into surgery if you take Emergency Surgeries into consideration they could get called to OR in the middle of sex, lol. I can't fathom a situation in which a doctors sex life would interfier with their ability to perform in a operating suite, as a matter of fact I would think it would be encouraged considering the relaxing effect sex has on a person. I would be interested in an explination for this from wherever you heard it!

I've never heard of that before. With the profession of some doctors and the types of surgeries they do (some do surgery on a daily basis) I would think that would be a tough rule, as well as a tough rule to enforce.
The best thing to do to get a real answer would be to just ask your doctor next time you go in.

That's just a myth that's been going around for ages. The same thing has been said about ballplayer, boxers, soldiers, etc. It's just a myth.

However, a doctor having sex minutes or even an hour before surgery might not be a good idea because it could distract him or her.

I am a registered nurse, this is a myth. As they say on beyond tomorrow...it is busted! It is Personal choice, how would any boby know what the surgeon does it their free time besides is it anyone else's concern?
