99% of the time, they're the same. The 1% of the time that they're different is when you have a somewhat old computer (say 4+ years old). DVD-R is a slightly older technology (essentially a CD-R, but can hold more info). But because there were some problems with the CD-R, the DVD+R format was created which introduced some additional features to the DVD, such as lossless linking (you can stop recording, then start again with no loss of data), and resolving compatibility issues (DVD+R's are all compatible with each other, while DVD-R's might not be).

In the end, DVD-R's and DVD+R's got backing from different companies for different reasons, and came on the market at the same time. For older computers, the drive might be compatible with one version, but not the other. For new computers, they can read and write to both formats, but I'd get the DVD+R, because of the additional features.

i think of it has some thing to do with how the education is saved on the disk. DVD+r is the maximum modern style, and could many times in basic terms paintings on greater moderen dvd gamers, ones that are greater moderen than perhaps 4 years or so. DVD-r will play on something. that is any incorrect way around, yet i'm fairly specific i've got been given it precise. besides the version is small, yet can impression the place you play your media.

Now most DVD players will read either disc. Initially, DVD+R had some advantages in editing and finalizing, but I think now there is little difference. The blank discs are formatted differently, so a DVD-R only drive cannot write to a DVD+R disc, and vice versa. Howver, you can now get DVD writers for computers that will record both formats.

DVD+R is a write-once format intended to be more compatible with more DVD players, though at this point it seems to be about even with DVD-R, which remains the most compatible computer-burned DVD format.

Selecting a + drive, will allow you to use both dvd-r and dvd+r, where a - drive you can only use - discs, and not +.

+ is owned by hewlett packard, and as far as I've seen, it's not as popular. I've run across quite a few dvd players that you have to do a firmware upgrade to make them work correctly. I tend to like the -.
