I'm going to be a freshman at college this year and I was wondering what the best laptop/notebook would be?

I really need one, I heard the MacBooks are good. But I was wondering if there is anything better, or your opinions on this, thanks.

for carrying macbooks are good because they're thin and light, but technically they have only a decent graphics (not upgradeable). if you need good graphics then you should get a macbook pro, but they're pretty expensive.

compared with the macbook, the Dell E1405 is technically about the same but has a slightly larger screen (14.1" compared with the 13.3" of the macbook) and according to Dell a phenomenal long battery life of 8 hours with a 9 cell battery.

if you need a better graphics than the E1405 has, you can consider the E1505 with a GeForce Go 7300, but this costs extra.

well, I would recommend you to buy either a SONY or COMPAQ/HP. Both of these products are very good and lasts a long time. If you have a tight budget then u should consider DELL. Before u buy, u should first decide the following matters
1. Why do u need a laptop and what requirements do u need
2. If u r planning to carry it frequently to school, then u should consider the weight factor.

Any of the dell models hold up pretty well and come with a good guarantee. Mine made it all the way through college and beyond. Just make sure you get all the basic stuff like windows and you should be fine! Also, a floppy disk drive is helpful.
