Hello:
I am a Family Physician (solo-private practice). I have been practicing for ten years, one of those was with Kaiser. I can tell you it is not only horrible for the patient but the physician as well. Kaiser is simply what I call a "patient factory". Rarely do you get to see the same doctor each time you go in, but you wait forever and when you finally get in the exam room you are lucky if you get 5 minutes. Physicians working for Kaiser are forced to see an ungodly number of patients per hour (I am talking 6-10) which if you calculate the total time with each patient it is about five minutes. Doctors simply cannot give it their all when forced to see that many patients.
The only thing good I can say about Kaiser is that when I quit, I was forced to attempt going solo. I opened up my own private practice 3 years ago and would never go back to working for these large corporations. I have 100 percent autonomy, I schedule one patient per half an hour if they are established and one hour if they are new. They never have to wait and they always come back! If there is any other insurance you can get, I would advise you to change. I have always wondered what the malpractice/law suit rate for Kaiser doctors is.
Now, does that answer your question? GET OUT IF YOU CAN!!!
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.
