My 10 month old developed a rash this afternoon on his tummy. It's now spread to his back, his shoulders and his neck. It is not on his arms, legs or butt. We are thinking it may be heat rash (it is 114 degrees today), but with him not taking a lot of fluids and not being hungry is making us wonder. There is no fever but he's really fussy. Any ideas?

He's also not interested in breastfeeding, but is very happy in the bath!

right now he's eating shaved ice with pedialyte (sp?) mixed in.

The rash is not 'raised' very much, but you can feel it when you touch his skin...it's now spread onto his privates and butt.

From what you've told me, it could very well be heat rash, as the tummy, back, and shoulders are common places for that to develop, and it makes sense in the heat. I can understand why he would not want to breastfeed, given most people don't want to drink something warm when it's hot out. The rash won't hurt him, but it's a good indication that he needs to be kept cooler. Can you get him to drink anything else? Maybe refrigerated breast milk?

i'm sorry to take heed to that your son has a foul diaper rash. My son who's 2-years previous now used to get somewhat undesirable diaper rash when we ate at Taco Bell. i'd use Vaseline first and it cleared up after some days, yet then I heard about "Bourdeax's Butt Paste". Now i will inform you that those issues works!!! it may sparkling his rear in decrease than 2 days. it really is on the extreme priced facet, yet properly well worth the purchase. you'll come across a small tube at Wal-Mart or objective interior the toddler section and that i imagine they run about 6 money. Now, i'd purely use this if his diaper rash does not bypass away after an afternoon or 2. frequently the Vaseline labored and that replaced into more cost-effective purchase. sturdy success and that i'm hoping you discover what's going to artwork. :-)

Keep him cool and see the doctor. It is probably just a viral infection and there is not really anything they will be able to do except let it run its course or if the rash seems to itch or bother him they can treat the symptoms. Sometimes Strep throat can also come with a rash like you have described called scarletina BUT kids under 2 yrs old rarely get it. Viral infection is the best best (rosiola) but it's better to be safe than sorry so check with your doctor.

If it is still there in the morning I'd call the Dr just to ask. Look on line at pictures of heat rash and compare too.
Does he have a fever?

Yes I agree with the keep him cool, bath, maybe wipe him down when not in a bath, ask your Dr
Sounds like heat rash to me
Remember that the largest organ in your body is your skin-keep him hydrated that way
Hes probably not eating the same reason we dont eat when its that hot--its too hot!

What has he eaten today? It may be an allergic reaction to food, like strawberries. My son broke out once like that and it completely freaked me out. I was putting him in the bathtub (he was 2 years old at the time) and noticed the rash mostly on his torso. I thought about what he had eaten that day and it was a reaction to strawberries (I get it too).

The rash is probably heat...to comfort and cool it down, put him into some luckewarm water with some cornstarch. It will soothe the rash, then keep dry,do not use perfumey powders on him...
after he is dry....sprinkle cornstarch on him...While you have him in the tub give him popsicles ..

is he on any medications or have there been any changes in his diet? It could be hives. When my son was 8 months old, he had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic he was taking for an ear infection, and I thought it might be chicken pox. The only way to be certain is to take him to the Dr.

The rash can be a number of things. It can be the laundry detergent your using, food, the heat, etc.
You really need to bring him to a doctor.
